Evolution of the Interface
In my Introduction to Computer Science course today we were talking about the evolution of the interface.
CLI - Command Line Interface
Where we typed in the command line.
GUI - Graphical User Interface
Mouse and keyboard.
NUI- Natural User Interface
Interacting with computing devices in natural ways like talking, gestures, etc. We are just at the beginning of NUI.
But as we talked, I always try to help students see beyond and I asked “what’s next.” As scary as it sounds, looking at the facts, the BUI was what we came up with - Biological User Interface— where we will interface with devices that are part of us.
So, computers are going to move from being all around us (NUI) to inside us (BUI). I personally am ok with risking technology - if it crashes or blows up, I just lose a computer, but I, for one, don’t want anyone hacking my brain or nervous system.
It was a great conversation though with extremely bright kids.
