Foldit, crowdsourcing, and labor. - Slate Magazine →
Foldit is made a game out of a problem, folding proteins, with startling results. I think that as we look for how games can be used at education, we should consider how problems themselves - even those we do not have the answers to - can become games and competitions. This is not a bad thing as some have said and the attitude of creating a game, even out of things that are very serious, has...

If you work with empowering the victims of crimes, I think the Women in Haiti case study shared on this website is an important one to help you understand how to empower people who are or could become victims. This program by digital democracy, uses technology, trains volunteers, and collects data so that an understanding of what is happening can help drive solutions. This is something we should...

Top 10 consumer complaints - Feb. 28, 2012 →
For the 12th year in a row, consumers complain about identity theft. It is time to start teaching students about how to protect their own identity. It starts with every student having their own password and being expected to REMEMBER it. Letting students share passwords is a precursor to lax security that will let their identity be stolen by a girlfriend or someone in their office.

BBC News - Apple iPad 3 expected on 7 March... →
The BBC says their invitation has a photo that looks like an iPad 3 on it, however, it could be other things. Could it be an iTable an iDesk — most people think a new iPad but as always, Apple continues a long tradition of secrecy, which honestly, does more to market their product than anything.

Teachers in Tiaras: When to Tattle →
teachersintiaras:
I’m sure many of you wonderful teachers out there can side with me that tattling is a problem, especially in the EC classroom. My mentor did something simply amazing in order to nip all of the tattles in the bud. She posted a huge laminated poster of when to tattle titled “The Tattling Rules.”
…
Tattling rules. What are yours?

Reengaging a lost generation →
Some say that today’s students have lost their passion. And we may be to blame — many argue that we’ve drubbed it out of school. With dropout rates remaining problematic, how do we reengage a lost generation of students?
I wrote this piece for the Atlantic as part of a series I’m doing on teaching and education. I believe that we, as teachers, CAN do things to engage our...

Bloom's Digital Taxonomy by Andrew Churches →
This is Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy, an important read on how to move your technology-infused assignments up the taxonomy to promote higher order thinking. I have this on my ipad. A colleague asked me to print this out because I had mentioned it in Chapter 7 of the Flattening Classrooms, Engaging Minds book I co wrote. It is one of my favorite chapters because it relates current education...

The European Union’s highest court has been asked to rule on the legality of a controversial anti-piracy agreement.
The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (Acta) has been criticised by rights campaigners who argue it could stifle free expression on the internet.
